Woodward N. Lungren

January 29, 1922 — April 17, 2010

Woodward Nelson Lungren, 88, went to his heavenly home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 17, 2010. Woodward was born Jan. 29, 1922, the son of Oscar and Lottie (Toomay) Lungren. He was the devoted husband of Waneta Lungren and the proud father of six children: Lina Miller (Norman), Anna Jones (George), Mary Stone (Ronald), Nelson Lungren, Marguerite Ogden (Richard), Edward Lungren (Kathy). He was a wonderful grandfather to eight grandchildren: Lorena Pryor (Rusty), Jay Miller, Amanda Sanders (Daniel), Amelia Allen (Tim), Andrew and Anthony Ogden, Hillary and Jared Lungren. He was blessed with six lovely great-granddaughters: Lily, Mellody, Sheila, Julie, and Cora Pryor and Sophia Ogden. His brothers were Maurice (Penny), Donald, Calvin (Dorothy), and Raymond (Tuda). Over the years, he acquired many truly wonderful friends. In 1946, he married Waneta, the love of his life. Waneta and Woodward raised six children in a good, loving, Christian home. Woodward was very extremely proud of each one of his children. Sadly, the day came when Waneta left Woodward behind. His heart broke - so many years - so much life. So many things shared with no one else. Things were never the same for him without her. In 1948 Woodward graduated from the University of Missouri. Woodward's willingness to help and his kind heart were a hallmark of his life. He was a man of great faith and spirituality. He was a kind person, a great gentleman, very thoughtful, a good listener, a man of honor and integrity. He knew what was right and he always took pride in doing what was right. Woodward was a lifelong farmer - a very hard worker. He loved the land and enjoyed the great outdoors. He loved to read books, enjoyed family reunions and volunteered in the community. He will always be remembered for his energy, his love of life and his inspiration to countless friends. Woodward's faith in God has always been a very important part of his life. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and took pride in participating in many religious activities. For many years, he was a Sunday School Superintendent. Woodward lived his entire life in the Braymer, Stet, Bosworth, and Breckenridge communities prior to going to the Licking Park Manor in July 2005. Even though he would have preferred to be in his home in Breckenridge, he appreciated all of the help he received at the Licking Park Manor. He could not have gotten along without them. The family is especially grateful for the loving care Woodward received. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Waneta, his daughter Lina Miller, his parents Oscar and Lottie Lungren, his parents-in-law Hobart and Lina Feese, two brothers Maurice and Donald Lungren, and two brothers-in-law Leland and Berkley Feese. Memorial contributions in Woodward's memory can be made toward the purchase of books for the Breckenridge R-1 School Library. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1p.m., Saturday, April 24 at the Methodist Church, 580 W. Main St., Breckenridge. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at the church. He will truly be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known him. Dad, the treasured memories will forever enrich our lives. You gave us the invaluable gift of your love that only you could give. You were the very best! One of a KIND!
