Woodrow "Woody" Kline, age 97, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri passed away at Morningside Center in Chillicothe, Missouri on June 2, 2010. He was born to the parents of Fred and Caroline Kline on January 29, 1913 in Pulaski, Iowa. On January 1, 1949, he married Harriett Jane Armstrong in Manly, Iowa. She preceded him in death December 31, 2007. Woody served in the Army during World War II from 1943 until 1945 as military police. He owned and operated a television store and a camera store before serving as Mayor of Chillicothe, Missouri from 1966 until 1971. During his time in office, Mr. Kline completed several projects including the construction of a new city water system and a new electrical distribution center. He also helped secure funds for a new hospital and low income housing. He was a co-founder of the Optimists. He was also a member of the Vern R. Glick Post No. 25 and a member of the First Christian Church in Chillicothe, Missouri. Survivors include two sons; Woodrow "Fritz" Kline and daughter-in-law, Julie of Chillicothe, Missouri and Terry Kline and daughter-in-law, Tina of Pollock, Missouri; one daughter, Cindy Kline of Chillicothe, Missouri; eight grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents, three brothers; Harold, Charlie, and Henry Kline; and four sisters, Rosa Simmer, Lydia Worthington, Anna Roberts Kline, and Nellie Stewart. Services will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri on Monday, June 7, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. There will be a family visitation on Sunday, June 6 from 5:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Chillicothe, Missouri. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 6, 2010.
