Dr. Chad McCoy, age 95, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at Stonebridge Community, Chillicothe, Missouri.
Chad was born the son of Howard Clement and Adah Pearl (Chadwick) McCoy Bishop, on June 7, 1929, in Albany, Missouri. He was a graduate of Albany High School. He enlisted into the United States Army and was stationed in Germany from 1947 until 1949. Chad was united in marriage to Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Whitlow on August 30, 1952 in Kirkwood, Missouri. She preceded him in death on April 18, 2007. On December 20, 2008, he was married to Sharon (Powell) McCall of Chillicothe, Missouri. Chad attended Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri as an undergrad in 1952. He received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1954. Chad was a second generation Dentist and started his dental practice in Chillicothe, Missouri in 1954. He retired after 60 years at the age of 82.
Chad was a member of the International College of Dentists, the American College of Dentists, and was president of the Missouri Dental Association in 1993. He was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he was an Elder and sang in the choir, he was a Lions Club member as well. He was very active with the Boy Scouts as the Assistant Scout Master of Troop #123, Advisor to Explore Post #123 and assisting many other Chillicothe Scout Troops, mainly Troop #120. Chad was the longest living Chieftain for the Tribe of Mic-O-Say of the Pony Express Council, and also received the Silver Beaver Award. He enjoyed playing golf with his longtime friend, Jack Neal. He loved to travel, he visited over 150 countries, even participating in the Christian Dental Society providing dental work in Guatemala in the 1960’s and 70’s. He and his children hiked across the Grand Canyon together.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon; two daughters, Chrysa Niewald, and husband, Richard, of Owensville, Missouri; and Claudia Perry of Kansas City, Missouri; one son, Rolfe C. McCoy, and wife, Julie, of Chillicothe, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Matthew Niewald. Andy Niewald. Adam Niewald and Rachel Niewald, Lauren Webb, Emily Mattingly, Heidi Pryor, and Maggie McConville; sixteen great-grandchildren, Aidan, Abigail, Olivia, Ethan, Parker, Lucas, Isabella, Emily, Karsin, Henli, Elliott, Elyse, Adah Pearl, Zeppelin, Oliver and Lennon; two step-sons, John McCall and wife, Emily of Gardner, Kansas, and Tom McCall of St. Charles, Missouri; one brother, Jim Bishop and wife, Kaye, of Georgetown, Texas; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Betty McCoy; one son, Bruce M. McCoy; sister, Joan Ostertag; and brother, Tom Bishop.
A Memorial service will be held at the United Methodist Church, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. A scheduled visitation will be held at the United Methodist Church, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Saturday, April, 12, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. one hour prior to service time. A Celebration of Life will follow the service, and will be held at the Chillicothe Country Club. The family invites all to attend. Friends may call at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, April 11, 2025, from 10 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. A private family inurnment will be held at Edgewood Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pony Express Council Boy Scouts of America and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, PO Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri, 64601.
