William "Bill" Dean Evans William "Bill" Dean Evans of Braymer, Missouri, passed away on November 26, 2014, surrounded by his family. Bill was born on August 18, 1924 in New Cambria, Missouri. In December 1935, his family moved to Braymer. He graduated from Braymer High School in 1942; he entered Missouri Valley College for one year and then joined the Marines. He was a proud member of the 4th Marine Division, ending his military career in Okinawa. Upon returning to Braymer, Bill met Jean Bowers and they were married in 1947. He went back to Missouri Valley and graduated in 1950. Bill began his teaching career as a coach and history teacher in Grain Valley; later becoming principal of the high school. He then entered the Kansas City school system and became principal of Westport, Southeast and Van Horn high schools. Upon retiring from the Kansas City school district, he and Jean moved to Columbia, where he served as an official with the Missouri State High School Activities Association. Their final move was to his hometown of Braymer. Bill and Jean were happy to be back among family and longtime friends, and enjoyed sitting on their front porch. Bill served as a member, Lay Leader, Chairman of the Board and Sunday School teacher at the United Methodist Church of Braymer and as an active member of the American Legion. He was honored to be selected as Grand Marshal of the Braymer Homecoming Parade. Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Jean; his parents, Tom and Lena Evans and his sister, Virginia Murrain. He is survived by his children, Stephania Evans Alexander, Thomas Bowers Evans and Beth Evans Bennett as well as six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and by his sisters, Mary Ellen Loff and Betty Sue Haynes. Funeral services will be held at the Braymer United Methodist Church, Braymer, Missouri, on Saturday, December 6, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. A scheduled family visitation will be held at the Lindley Pitts Funeral Home, Braymer, Missouri, on Friday, December 5, 2014, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Pitts Funeral Home, Braymer, Missouri, on Friday, December 5, 2014, from 12 noon until 8:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, Braymer, Missouri.
