Wanda Mae (Ewing) Mcdaneld

July 15, 1926 — February 25, 2015

WANDA MAE (EWING) MCDANELD Wanda Mae (Ewing) McDaneld was born July 15, 1926 and departed this life on Wednesday, February 25, 2015, at 5:45 a.m. after a long battle with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Diseases. She was with us in the lifetime for 88 years. Wanda was a resident of Rural Hale, Missouri. Wanda was the second of four children born to the late Ida Mae (Plaster) and Harry Otis Ewing. She was born at the family home in Wheeling, Missouri. Wanda and her parents and sisters, Mona and Joyce and brother Eugene, resided in Wheeling and in Chillicothe and grew up in the 30's and 40's enjoying her Grandparents and the fellowship of cousins, friends and family. Wanda joined the Wheeling Baptist Church on October 2, 1938 at the age of 12 through the guidance of her parents, Ida and Otis. This began her life long relationship with God, her Church and her Community. Wanda attended Wheeling High School and was active in many activities and was a member of the High School Basketball team. Upon graduation she worked at the Citizens National Bank in Chillicothe for several years. Living in Chillicothe with her family, Wanda met the love of her life, H Wayne McDaneld, a returning WWII veteran. They were united in marriage on January 15, 1950 at the Elm Street Methodist Church in Chillicothe. They enjoyed dancing and roller skating and fellowship with church friends and family. They set up their home at the McDaneld family land at the Livingston-Carroll County line along Highway 65. To this union, three sons were born, Gary, Brent and David. Wanda and Wayne were active members of the Oakland Christian Church where Wanda was the assistant pianist and taught many Sunday School Classes over the years as well as Summer Bible School Classes each year. She was an active member of The Oakland Christian Women's Fellowship and she was a member of the Stokes Mound Extension Club since 1950 where she was President of the club for many years. Wanda enjoyed gardening and a special delight were her flowers that she grew. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, crocheting and a variety of crafts through the years. Many of her creations will live on as precious keepsakes for her family. She taught by example that volunteer work and giving back to the community is an important part of life. Her biggest delight and achievement were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was fiercely protective of all children, and to the very end of her life, the one thing that would give her great delight and make her smile were visits from her little great-grandchildren. Wanda is preceded in death by her parents, Ida Mae (Plaster) and Harry Otis Ewing, her brother Eugene Francis Ewing, her sister Mona (Ewing) Hinshaw Claussen and her husband of 56 years, H Wayne McDaneld. Wanda is survived by her sister Joyce (Ewing) Dowell and husband Richard L Dowell of Chillicothe. Wanda is also survived by her sons - Gary McDaneld and fiancée Clarissa of rural Hale, and son Brent McDaneld of New York, New York, and son David McDaneld and daughter in law, Linda of rural Hale. She is also survived by three Grandchildren, Julie (McDaneld) Sewell and husband Quinn of Chillicothe, Michael McDaneld and wife Jenni of Hale and Will McDaneld of rural Hale, and four Great-Grandchildren, Jacob Hale of Springfield, Missouri, Abby Paden of Bosworth, Jett Sewell of Chillicothe and Jagger Sewell of Chillicothe, 6 step-Great-Grandchildren and 6 nieces and nephews. Many things could be said about Wanda, but words are soon forgotten. She will be remembered by many as a good and dependable friend, a volunteer for her church, community and club activities or a gentle and loving sister. She will be remembered as a loving Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. The example that she set for her family and those around her will forever be present.
