Virginia Ann McKenzie Virginia McKenzie, age 84, a resident of Fayette, Missouri, formerly of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2013, at Golden Living Center, Glasgow, Missouri. Virginia was born the daughter of Melvin Roy and Ethelyn (Thompson) Cannon on June 1, 1929, in Oelwein, Iowa. Virginia graduated from Linneus High School, Linneus, Missouri, in 1946. She later received her BS at Missouri Western State University, St. Joseph, Missouri, in 1974, and a Masters degree from Truman State University, Kirksville, Missouri, in 1978. She was united in marriage to Joseph Mark McKenzie on July 25, 1949, at St. Columban's Catholic Church, Chillicothe, Missouri. He preceded her in death on October 18, 1998. Virginia worked as a counselor at Dewey Elementary School, Chillicothe, Missouri, for 19 years. She was a member of the St. Columban's Catholic Church. Virginia was also a member of, DAR, Friends of the Library, and the Retired Teachers Association in Fayette. She enjoyed reading, genealogy, and traveling. Survivors include children Mary Ann Powell, Fayette, Missouri, Michael McKenzie, Omaha, Nebraska, Lisa McCartney (husband Michael) Lincoln, Alabama, Susan McKenzie, Lee's Summit, Missouri, Kevin McKenzie (wife Karen) Maumee, Ohio, and David McKenzie (wife Laura) Parkville, Missouri; brother Ed Johnson (wife Janice) Kansas City, Missouri; sister Marilyn Chaney (husband Bert) Hutchinson, Kansas; half-sisters Sharron Carole, Covington, Louisiana, Laura Guneau, Hermosa Beach, California; grandchildren Felicia (Karl) Streckfuss, Derrick (Tara) Powell, Sara (Clint) Stewart, Evan (Katie) Absher, Frances McCartney, Natalie (Sam) Colgrove, and Baily McCartney, Nathan Marsh, Tim (Amanda) Marsh, Sean (Nikki) McKenzie, Bryan McKenzie, Megan (Charlie) Good; and great grandchildren Devon, Dylan, Mark, Bethany, Christine Streckfuss, Avery and Addison Powell, Tate and McKenzie Stewart, George Absher, Landry and Quinlyn Marsh, Scotty McKenzie, and Conner and Alyssa Peck. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Mark; infant son John; son-in-law Norman Powell; and half-brothers Michael and Patrick Cannon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Columban's Catholic Church, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. A Parish Rosary with family visitation to follow will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Monday, August 26, 2013 from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Monday, August 26, 2013, from 12 noon until 8:00 p.m. Burial will be held at the Leopolis Cemetery, Wheeling, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the Leopolis Cemetery and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601.
