Virginia Myrl (Evans) Burton
Virginia Myrl (Evans) Burton, age 98, a resident of Hale, Missouri, formerly of Bogard, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at her residence.
Virginia was born the daughter of Alfred and Lena (Lantz Minnis) Evans on April 14, 1923, in Bogard, Missouri. She attended rural schools in Carroll County, and was a 1941 graduate of Carrollton High School. After graduation, she taught at Wooden School, a one room school, from 1942 until 1943. In 1943, she attended college in Warrensburg, Missouri. Prior to her marriage, Virginia worked at Boss Glove Factory, and she also worked in Kansas City, Missouri. She was united in marriage to Walter Howard Burton on May 20, 1944, in Kansas City, Kansas. He preceded her in death on March 3, 1999. Virginia was a homemaker, and a loving wife and mother. She was a member of Coloma Baptist Church, Coloma, Missouri. She was also a member of the Stokes Mound Community Club.
Survivors include five sons, John H. Burton and wife Margaret of Chillicothe, Missouri, R. Leon Burton and wife Kathy of Chillicothe, Missouri, Steven Burton and wife Patti of Hale, Missouri, Nelson Burton and wife Connie of Chillicothe, Missouri, Neal Burton and wife Brenda of Odessa, Missouri; three daughters, Marian Burton of Wheeling, Missouri; Vivian Engleman and husband James of Chillicothe, Missouri; Pamela Marriott and husband Wayne of Chula, Missouri; nineteen grandchildren; forty-three great grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter Howard; one grandson, Mark Burton; one great grandson, Jeffrey Bowman; six brothers, Milton, George, Lantz, Hubert, and Kenneth Minnis, and John Evans; and three sisters, Corinne Eisenhower, Mabelle Parker, and Mildred Shipp.
Funeral services will be held at the Coloma Baptist Church, Coloma, Missouri, on Sunday, May 30, 2021, at 1:30 p.m. A scheduled visitation will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Saturday, May 29, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Saturday, May 29, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Arkadelphia Cemetery, Livingston County, Missouri.
