Veta Maxine Dowell Maxine Dowell, age 96, a resident of Smithville, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospice House, Kansas City, Missouri. Maxine was born the daughter of Joseph Earl and Lilian Pearl (Jones) Gates on May 31, 1918, in Bevier, Missouri. Maxine received her high school diploma from Chillicothe High School, Chillicothe, Missouri, in 1936 when women graduates were rare. Maxine was united in marriage to Kenneth Dowell Sr. on August 2, 1936 in Chillicothe, Missouri. He preceded her in death on November 30, 1985. She retired from Trans World Airlines after 35 years of service. She was lead in Fleet Service. Maxine was a member of Budget Travel Club and Machinist Union. Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Dowell Jr. and wife Glenda of Smithville, Missouri; and Ronald Dowell and wife Joyce of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Kenneth Dowell Sr.; four brothers, Arlin Gates, Earnest Gates, Earl "Book" Gates, and Kenneth Gates; and two sisters, Mary Leona Holmes and Thelma Edith Johnson. Funeral services will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Saturday, October 4, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. A scheduled family visitation will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, October 3, 2014, from 6:00p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, October 3, 2014, from 12 noon until 8:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Resthaven Memorial Garden, Chillicothe, Missouri.
