Vera Maude Hughes

Vera Maude Hughes Vera Maude Hughes, age 92, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2017, at Morningside Center, Chillicothe, Missouri. Vera was born the oldest of eight children of James R. and Elizabeth (Burtch) DeVaul on June 28, 1924, in Grundy County, Missouri. She was a 1942 graduate of Wheeling High School. She then attended Chillicothe Business College. She was united in marriage to Delbert Hughes on July 3, 1965, in Anderson, Missouri. He preceded her in death on July 13, 2000. She worked as a bookkeeper for "Bob" Staton Service for 61 years. Vera was a member of the First Baptist Church, Chillicothe, Missouri. She was also a member of the Vern R. Glick American Legion Post 25 Auxiliary, and the Women's Democratic Club. Vera served as a volunteer for the Hedrick Medical Center Auxiliary for many years. She loved spending time with her family and playing cards. She is survived by three sisters, Mary E. DeVaul and Linda L. Kimmis of Chillicothe, Missouri, and Sandra S. Gallentine of Luck, Wisconsin; one brother, Robert James DeVaul, Jr. of Mesa, Arizona; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews all of which she was very fond of. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one brother, William B. DeVaul; two sisters, Bonnie Mae Poolman and Julia Ann Doss; and niece, Kathy Kae Kimmis. Funeral services will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Thursday, February 23, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. A scheduled family visitation will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, from 12 noon until 8:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Wheeling Cemetery, Wheeling, Missouri.
