Velma May Minnis

Velma May Minnis Velma May Minnis, age 94, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2016, at Indian Hills Retirement Village, Chillicothe, Missouri.   Velma was born on December 7, 1921, the daughter of Preston and Mary (Stottlemyer) Stallcup in Texas County, Missouri. She married Kenneth C. Minnis, on September 26, 1940 in Montana. He preceded her in death in 1975.   Velma worked for Banquet Foods in Carrollton for ten years. She was a member of the Local Women's Club of Bosworth. She loved to attend Senior dances, RSVP and Tina Old Fiddlers of Hale, Missouri. She loved seamstress work, sewing crocheting, embroidering and baking bread. She enjoyed watching the birds and squirrels at Indian Hills.   Velma is survived by two sons, Porter Minnis and wife Cindy of Brookfield, Missouri, Martin Minnis, of Chillicothe, Missouri; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Wilma Riek of Dickinson, Texas; one brother-in-law, Glen Casey of Mountain Grove, Missouri; and one sister-in-law, Evelyn Stallcup of Bucyrus, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Kenneth; one son, Gene Minnis and wife Sharon; four sisters, Leah Lorene (Stallcup), Hazel Fern (Stallcup) Servis, Golda Casey (Stallcup), and Shirley Roberta Stallcup; and five brothers, Floyd Olen, Elwyn Lucius, Euel Sterling, Herbert (Bob), John Vernon Stallcup and wife Thelma.   Funeral services will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, April 1, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. A scheduled family visitation will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, April 1, 2016, one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Thursday, March 31, 2016, from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Blue Mound Cemetery, Dawn, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association and/or the Parkinson's Foundation and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601.
