Tom Ray Minnick
Tom Ray Minnick, Major, Retired, US Army Reserve, age 77, a resident of Scottsdale, Arizona passed away Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at a Scottsdale Hospital after a short illness.
Tom the son of Raymond and Frances Minnick, was born in Chillicothe, MO, on
October 15, 1943. Tom grew up as a farm boy in Lock Springs, MO, and he was still active in farming in the Lock Springs area. He grew up in the Lock Springs Methodist Church.
Tom was a 1961 graduate of Jamesport MO High School. He attended the University of Missouri, Columbia, and graduated in 1973 with a Master's in Crop Science. Tom served his country proudly in the US Army Reserves from 1967 until his retirement in 2003.
After graduation he started as an agronomist for Trojan Seed CO in Des Moines, Iowa. An opportunity working with Peto vegetable seed took him to California and he then moved to Glendale, Arizona after purchasing Liefgreen Seed CO. He had offices in Arizona and New Mexico and exported vegetable seed worldwide. Tom also established Frontier Seed CO to capture the Mexican market. Tom owned parent stock of the well-known Sweetie 82 sweet corn. Tom had several business ventures in Arizona including Southwest InSEALator/Going Green and IFS Flooring Company. Tom loved restoring muscle cars and this hobby turned into a business partnership with KC Classic Auto in Lenexa, KS.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Minnick; brother, Ron Minnick (Pam) Lock Springs; nephews Jerad Minnick (Rebecca) Monrovia, MD; Aaron Minnick (Kathy) Chillicothe, MO; Scott Minnick (Katie) Liberty, MO; niece Emilee Geldart (Dan) Roeland Park, KS. He was also a Great Uncle to Ron and Pam's grandchildren. Tom was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Sharon.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Lock Springs Cemetery. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home Chillicothe, Missouri on Friday, June 25, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lock Springs Fire Protection Association which Tom has supported and been active in since its 1971 incorporation.
