Thomas Murphy, Jr. Thomas Murphy, Jr., age 92, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, July 4, 2018, at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans' Hospital, Columbia, Missouri. Thomas was born the son of Thomas, Sr. and Neva (Shearer) Murphy on May 14, 1926, in Wheeling, Missouri. He was a 1944 graduate of Huntsville High School. He served in the United States Navy from 1944 until 1948, during World War II. Thomas was united in marriage to Loice Marie Smith on September 10, 1949, in Williamstown, Missouri. She preceded him in death on March 16, 1970. He was then united in marriage to Mary (Carberry) Strange on July 31, 1982, in Chillicothe, Missouri. She survives of the home. Thomas worked as a farmer. He was a member of St. Columban Catholic Church, Chillicothe, Missouri. He was also a member of the Vern R. Glick American Legion Post #25, the Roy L. Burkett VFW Post #858, and the Disabled American Veterans. He served as a former deacon at the Wheeling Baptist Church, and was very active in the Wheeling community. Thomas enjoyed bowling. Survivors include his wife, Mary, of the home; one son, Mike Murphy of Chillicothe, Missouri; one stepson, David Strange and wife Linda of Jefferson City, Missouri; one daughter, Gail Ann Murphy of Buffalo, Missouri; two stepdaughters, Marcia Putnam and husband Roger of Chillicothe, Missouri, and Patricia Kahn and husband Bill of Solon, Iowa; three grandchildren, Shane Michael Murphy of Chillicothe, Missouri, Sarah Ann Murphy of Chillicothe, Missouri, Ben Murphy of Camdenton, Missouri; six step grandchildren, Jason Strange and wife Leslie of Belton, Missouri, Brooke Peters and husband Doug of Holts Summit, Missouri, Craig Putnam and wife Ashley of Chillicothe, Missouri, Trent Putnam of Maryville, Missouri, Cameo Kahn of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, and Brandon Kahn and wife Dulce of Solon, Iowa; and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and first wife, Loice. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Columban Catholic Church, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Saturday, July 7, 2018, at 11:30 a.m. A Parish Rosary will be held at the St. Columban Catholic Church, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Saturday, July 7, 2018, at 11:15 a.m. A scheduled visitation will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, July 6, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, July 6, 2018, from 12 noon until 8:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Wheeling Cemetery, Wheeling, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to LICOVA (Livingston County Veteran's Association) and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri, 64601.
