Sue Mary Haffey, age 97, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2021, at Morningside Center, Chillicothe, Missouri.
Sue was born the daughter of Tony Vannini and Julianna Mori Vannini on November 3, 1923, in Savanna, Illinois. She was a 1940 graduate of Savanna Township High School in Savanna. She was united in marriage to Bernard Haffey on June 19, 1948, in Savanna, Illinois. He preceded her in death on August 15, 2000.
Sue worked for the Savanna National Food Store and for the Department of Defense at the Savanna Army Depot. Sue and Bernard moved from Savanna, Illinois to Kearney, Missouri, then to Hale, Missouri, in 1952. Sue and Bernard were long-time residents of Hale and raised their three boys there. Sue worked at the Hale Grocery and at Dr. Patterson's veterinary office in Hale. She later moved to Chillicothe, Missouri, in 2014.
Sue was active in the Hale PTA, VFW, Hale Domestic Club, and her church. She was a member of several different bridge clubs and was a 50-year member of PEO. Sue was especially known for her hospitality and her love of card games. Her family loved her delicious cinnamon rolls, but was never quite sure she had given them all the correct ingredients to her secret recipe! She was devoted to her family and loved giving gifts to her kids and grandkids, especially her bingo winnings!
Survivors include: three sons, Bob Haffey and wife Peg, of Savanna, Illinois; Ron Haffey and wife Jan, of Columbia, Missouri; Randy Haffey and wife Karen, of Overland Park, Kansas; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bernard; two brothers and a sister-in-law, John and wife Bernice, and Phil Vannini; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Del and husband Donald Bowden, Eve and husband Francis "Chick" Engles.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Columban Catholic Church, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Saturday, February 27, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. A Parish Rosary will be held at St. Columban Catholic Church, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Saturday, February 27, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. Friends may call at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on February 26, 2021, from 12 noon to 8 p.m. Burial will be held at Hale Memorial Gardens, Hale, Missouri.
