Stephen Reed Ewing
Stephen Reed Ewing, age 72, a resident of Cameron, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at Quail Run Health Care Center, Cameron, Missouri.
Stephen was born the son of Eugene and Margaret (Mitten) Ewing on December 15, 1950, in Chillicothe, Missouri. Steve was united in marriage to Genie Amen on March 30, 2000. She remained his dearest and closest friend throughout the rest of his life. As a youth, Stephen accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized into the Christian faith as a member of the Union Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Chillicothe High School where he excelled in the Future Farmers of America organization. He became a Missouri state farmer. Because of his interest in agriculture he studied and graduated from Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, Missouri, with a degree in agriculture business. Upon graduation, he entered the Peace Corp and was stationed in the Philippines. Steve loved flowers and was known for his flower gardens. He also was an avid bridge player and was a member of Chillicothe Bridge Club. He enjoyed music but especially loved to listen to his younger brother, Marty, play the fiddle.
Survivors include four nephews, Matthew Ewing and family, Jacob Ewing, Seth Ewing, and Jon Daniel and wife, Jeanette; sister-in-law, Stephanie Ewing; three great nephews, one great niece and one great-great niece; and several cousins, including the Clemens clan. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Kenneth Ewing, who was killed in the Vietnam War, and Martin Ewing; one nephew, Lucas Ewing; and three aunts, Joyce Dowell, Wanda McDaneld and Mona Hinshaw Claussen.
Graveside services will be held at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, September 15, 2023. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Livingston County Fair Association and may be mailed to or left at Lindley Funeral Home, PO Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri, 64601.
