Sidney (Sid) P. Cornell
Sidney (Sid) P. Cornell, age 83, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2021, at Wexford Place, Kansas City, Missouri.
Sid was born March 30, 1937, in Webb City, Missouri, to Oliver and Dorothy (West) Cornell. He graduated from Webb City High School in 1955, and joined the Air Force, and was stationed for a while in Greenland.
In 1959, Sid joined the National Weather Service Severe Storms Forecast Center in Kansas City, Missouri, where he worked for more than 30 years, before retiring in 1992 and moving to Chillicothe.
During his retirement, Sid was an active member of the community, serving on Chillicothe's City Council and volunteering for several organizations. He was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. Later in life, he studied to become a pastor and served in the ministry for several years.
Sid took great joy in being a father, husband, grandpa and great grandpa. He was a truly kind man who enjoyed traveling, laughing, and spending time with friends and family.
Survivors include two daughters, Lori Norris of Platte City, Missouri, and Mari (Mark) Rydings of Platte Woods, Missouri; two stepdaughters, Sherry (Bernie) Parks of Chillicothe, Missouri, and Terisa (Steve) Guenther of Lee's Summit, Missouri; eight grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; three sisters, Karen (Kenny) Wilsonof Carl Junction, Missouri, Linda Beaver of Galena, Missouri, and Diane (Jerry) Brown of Carthage, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews. Sid was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 34 years, Wilma Cornell; brother, Dennis Cornell; son-in-law, Rod Norris; and first wife, Gladys Cornell.
A private family funeral service will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, February 5, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. There is no scheduled visitation. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Thursday, February 4, 2021, from 12 noon until 8:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Edgewood Cemetery, Chillicothe, Missouri.
