Shirley A. Watson

Shirley A. Watson, age 85, a resident of Avalon, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, November 25, 2015, at Indian Hills Retirement Village, Chillicothe, Missouri. Shirley was born the daughter of Vern and Myrtle (Mitchell) Lisenby on March 8, 1930, in Bedford, Missouri. She was a 1947 graduate of Avalon High School. She was united in marriage to Alva Lee Roy Watson on March 18, 1948, in Chillicothe, Missouri. He preceded her in death on January 19, 1996. Shirley and her husband made their home out of the Avalon School Cafeteria after the school closed. She worked as a homemaker, a caterer, decorated hundreds of wedding cakes, did painting and wallpapering. Shirley also worked as a sewer for Lambert Glove Factory for many years. She was a member of the Avalon United Methodist Church, Avalon, Missouri. She was a former 4H Leader of the Busy Bee's. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and attending their ball games. She was on the Avalon Cemetery Board. Survivors include two sons, Dennis Watson and wife Susan of Avalon, Missouri, and Robbie Watson of Avalon, Missouri; one daughter, Sherry Sims and husband, Dale of Avalon, Missouri; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one brother, Gerald Lisenby of Gravois Mills, Missouri; and one sister, Doris Bowes of Avalon, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alva; infant great grandchild, Thomas C.W. Duncan; and one sister, Donna Taylor. Funeral services will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Saturday, November 28, 2015, at 1:30 p.m. A scheduled family visitation will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, November 27, 2015, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, November 27, 2015, from 12 noon until 8:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Avalon Cemetery, Avalon, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to Avalon Cemetery and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601.
