Shirley Ann Walby

September 3, 1935 — May 25, 2020

Shirley Ann (Snyder) Walby
Shirley Ann Snyder, 84, of Avalon, Missouri, went home to the Lord Monday, May 25, 2020, at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.
Shirley was born September 3, 1935 to Jennie (Hill) and Carl Snyder of Lucerne, Missouri. She was the oldest of three daughters.
Shirley spent her childhood in Lucerne, Missouri, attending the Lucerne School until the Lucerne High School closed and she then chose to attend Newtown High School where she graduated in 1953. She was baptized and became a member of the Lucerne Christian Church as a young girl. She later transferred her membership to Oakland Christian Church, Carroll County, Missouri, where she taught Sunday School for many years. Right after graduation Shirley moved to Chillicothe, Missouri, and lived with her Uncle Ralph Snyder and his family. She immediately was hired by Livingston County Implement to work as a bookkeeper. While working there she caught the eye of Stanley Walby who was working as a mechanic next door at England Motors. Stanley got up the nerve to ask Shirley out and later he was surprised when Shirley said "yes" to his proposal of marriage. They were married October 6, 1955 at her parent's home in Lucerne, Missouri. Stanley and Shirley celebrated fifty-eight years of marriage before Stanley passed away on August 1, 2013.
To this union were born four children: Albert Seldon (stillborn), Carl Wesley, Rhonda Gail, and Brenda Lee. Shirley was a tremendous helpmate to Stanley on the farm and was always ready to lend a hand. She quit employment in Chillicothe when she became pregnant and spent her time taking care of her family.   She helped raise a large garden which she preserved for later use. Shirley was most happy when all her family was together, for she was quite the worrier.
Shirley is survived by her children Carl Walby of Avalon, Missouri; Rhonda Webber of Unionville, Missouri; Brenda (Randy) Corzette of Bettendorf, Iowa; three grandchildren: Zachary (Teresa) Webber of Columbia, Missouri; Kayla (John) Lanning of Mallard, Iowa; Jacob Corzette of Bettendorf, Iowa; three great-grandchildren: twins Emma and Shane Lanning and Sunny Webber and two sisters: Alice (James) Jackson of Kansas City, Missouri, and Mary Lou (Duane) Smith of Unionville, Missouri. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Jennie and Carl Snyder, her husband Stanley Walby, son Albert Seldon Walby and two grandsons: Levi Corzette and Tyler Corzette.
