Shirla Jean Mccreary

Shirla Jean McCreary, age 95, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on July 10, 2022, at her home in Chillicothe. Jean was born April 15, 1927 in Chillicothe, the daughter of Herbert John and Goldie Lauda Bunch Newton. On May 17, 1952 she married the love of her life, Forrest “Hank” McCreary in Chillicothe.
Jean was a 1945 graduate of Chillicothe High School. She retired from Citizens Bank and Trust where she enjoyed working with co-workers and customers over the many years. She liked decorating the bank for special occasions and had fun designing and decorating floats for the Holiday, 4-H and Kid’s Day parades. Jean was very proud of Chillicothe and thought our hometown parades should be as spectacular as the Macy’s and KC Christmas parades. Jean loved having picnics and walking in Chillicothe’s beautiful parks. She did animal rescue and helped spay and neuter numerous cats and dogs. She was an avid Hornets, Royals and Chiefs fan/collector and enjoyed watching the games with Kitty. Jean was a member of the First Baptist Church of Chillicothe.
Jean is survived by her daughter Jeana, grandson Jared, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; a brother Garland Newton of Chillicothe; three sisters, Mildred Lavender of Columbus, Mississippi, Voncille Burk and Jody James of Chillicothe; a granddaughter Chelsea and son-in-law Greg.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 15, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Edgewood Cemetery, Chillicothe. There is no scheduled visitation. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Thursday, July 14, 2022, from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the rescue organization of your choice to help an animal in need or to the Forrest O. Triplett Memorial Chillicothe Animal Shelter and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, MO 64601. Online condolences may be made at www.lindleyfuneralhomes.com .
