Sarah “Sue” Susan Moore, age 98, of rural Dawn, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at Hedrick Medical Center, Chillicothe, Missouri, after a brief illness.
Sue was born the daughter of John Elva and Eunice Rosabelle (McNelly) Silkwood on February 18, 1926, in Ray County, Missouri.
On May 11, 1945, Sue was united in marriage to Raymond “Red” Moore in Merriam, Kansas. To this union four boys were born, Raymond Dale Moore (Jean Ann), of Triplett, Missouri, Dearl Lee Moore (Linda), of Dawn, Missouri, David Ray Moore (Kim), of Braymer, Missouri, and Ronald Dewayne Moore (Janet), of Braymer, Missouri. Sue is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren; one sister, Fern Hall of Braymer, Missouri; special friends, Jim and Jane Trivett, of Malta Bend, Missouri; a cousin, Lois Paul, of Stet, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews. Sue was a wonderful cook and for many years, was a cook at the Busy Bee Restaurant, Braymer, Missouri. Her specialties were homemade pies, noodles and fried chicken. Sue still lived on the farm, she enjoyed feeding the cows pears or standing by the fence feeding her favorite cow, #44, from her hand. She loved to sit on the pond bank and fish. Sue mowed her own yard and took a daily morning walk around her garden, checking to see what had sprouted or ripened overnight. She canned all of the vegetables she raised and was so proud that she had grown such huge tomatoes this past summer. Sue was known to be found on the roof of a shed or tearing one down at times. She could be found often riding her gator or in the timber mushroom hunting. When asked about her age and health, her reply would be “Don’t get used to the rocking chair”.
