Life Reflections The life of the Ms. Ruth Amelia Thurman Holliday   Ruth Amelia Holliday, age 99, a resident of Jefferson City, Missouri, formerly of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at the Capital Region Medical Center, Jefferson City, Missouri.   Ruth was born the daughter of Rev. Albert Gentry and Alice Mary (Stanford) Thurman on May 23, 1918, in St. Louis, Missouri. She was a graduate of Central High School, Pueblo, Colorado. She was united in marriage to Harold Holliday on March 4, 1966, in Quincy, Illinois. He preceded her in death on May 25, 1983. Ruth for Trager Quarries, Chillicothe, Missouri, for many years, Church Hill Trucking and the KMBC Playhouse. She also worked for Indian Hills - A Stonebridge Community, Chillicothe, Missouri. She was a member of the Bethel AME Church, Chillicothe, Missouri. Ruth served as a volunteer for the American Red Cross. She started the 1st St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Bike-Athon's and really enjoyed it. She was an avid reader and loved quoting Poetry as well as various Literature.   Survivors include fourteen grandchildren, Roderick Irvin of Kansas City, Missouri, James "Joe" Irvin of Kansas City, Missouri, Booker Carter, Jr. and wife Karen of Kansas City, Missouri, Kirk Carter and wife Joyce of Kansas City, Missouri, Darryl Carter and wife Tereasa of Kansas City, Missouri, Marvin Carter of Kansas City, Missouri, Tanya Dixon of Jefferson City, Missouri, Evon Carter of Springfield, Missouri, Laura Jackson of Kansas City, Missouri, Carla Ray-Sam of Kansas City, Missouri, and Steven Albert Irvin of Las Vegas, Nevada; eighteen great grandchildren; thirty-one great-great grandchildren; two nephews, Chester Thurman and Eric Anderson; one great-great niece, Portia Jones and husband James; and special friends, "sister", Charlie Lott-Walker, Mentha Bakari, and Carol Neal and husband Johnnie. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; four sons, Carl, Edward, Kenneth, and Allen Irvin; two daughters, Alice Ray and Alberta Carter-Haislip; three grandsons, Kenneth M. Irvin, Michael W. Carter, and Edward Ray; two brothers, Walter "Bill" Thurman, and Dr. Arthur Odell Thurman; and two sisters, Alice T. Hill, and Vera B. Thurman.   Funeral services will be held at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Saturday, January 6, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. A scheduled visitation will be held at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Saturday, January 6, 2018, one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, January 5, 2018, from 12 noon until 5:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Edgewood Cemetery, Chillicothe, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601.
