Roger E. Parkey

Roger E. Parkey, age 96, a resident of Chula, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at the Veteran's Home in Cameron, Missouri. Roger was born the son of Willard N. and Clara B. (Dowell) Parkey on July 16, 1915 near Chula, Missouri. He grew up near Chula and had lived in Arizona and Powhattan, Kansas before moving back to Chula in 1951. He served in the U.S. Army 53rd Infantry during World War II and was awarded two Bronze Stars and a Good Conduct Medal. His service included the European, Northern France, and Aleutian Island Theaters. He worked as a farmer all of his life, loving nature and the land. Survivors include one sister-in-law, Doris Parkey of the home; three sisters, Lorraine Clement of Hawatha, Kansas, Eva Sanson of Topeka, Kansas, and Donna Schnitker of Union Star, Missouri; niece, Patricia Gray of Chillicothe, Missouri; and nephew, Michael Parkey and wife Rebecca of Chula, Missouri; several other nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, Chester and Howard "Bud" Parkey; one sister, Laveene Clayton; two sisters-in-law, Esther and Louise Parkey; brothers-in-law, Benny Clayton, Lynn Clement, Ray Schnitker, and Charlie Sanson; and one niece, Jeanie Kerl. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Chillicothe, Missouri.
