Robert Young

Robert Young, age 86, a resident of Laredo, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at Sunnyview Nursing Home in Trenton, Missouri. Robert was born on June 1, 1925 the son of Alvia and Vola (Gillette) Young in Prairie City, Illinois. On November 12, 1949 he was united in marriage to Mary Ericson in Galva, Illinois. She survives of the home. They moved to Laredo in 1983, after moving to this area of Missouri from Illinois in the early 60's. After many years in farming, he also worked as a carpenter and craftsman. After retiring, he worked several years as a Wal-Mart greeter while his health permitted. He was a member of the Laredo Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and was very active in his church. He was a member of the Vern R. Glick Post 25 American Legion in Chillicothe, Missouri. He is also survived by three sons, Stephen Young of St. Joseph, Missouri, David Young and wife Toni of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, and Jim Young of Laredo, Missouri; three daughters, Cathy Pierce and husband Ernie of Leitchfield, Kentucky, Candace "Jo" Carter and husband Gary of Cincinnati, Iowa, and Connie Nickell and husband Rick of Trenton, Missouri; one brother, Max Young of Dunlap, Illinois; one half-sister, Martha Hillyer of Carthage, Illinois; 14 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren, Dustin Pierce and Zackery Young. Services will be held on Monday, October 24, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the Laredo Baptist Church in Laredo, Missouri. There will be no scheduled family visitation. Friends may call the Lindley Funeral Home in Laredo, Missouri on Sunday, October 23, 2011 from 12 noon until 9:00 p.m. Burial will be held in Alpha Cemetery in Laredo, Missouri.
