Robert Dale (Bobby) Smith Robert Smith passed away from this life on Wednesday, October 9, 2013, following a brief but valiant battle with brain cancer. Robert was born March 4, 1948, the son of Cleo (Pete) and Mildred (Starkey) Smith. On May 28, 1988, Robert married Janet Sue Maize, who survives the home. Robert was extremely proud of his three children, Dustin Robert Smith and wife Stephanie of Bolckow, Missouri, Dana Nicole Bourn and husband Jeff of Kansas City, Missouri, and Brandon Michael Smith of Savannah, Missouri. He enjoyed spending every moment possible with his seven granddaughters, Kalyn, Rian, Callie and Morgan Smith, and Michaela, Savannah, and Drayleigh Bourn. Also, mourning his passing are his sister, Elizabeth Smith of Columbia, Missouri, five nephews and one niece, and closest friends, Montie Maddux and Raymond Johnston. Robert was preceded in death by his parents of Breckenridge and his aunt and uncle, Robert and Lucille Starkey of Fredonia, Kansas. Robert was very proud of his service to his country during the Vietnam War, his passion for farming, and his 20 years of service to the Department of Corrections as a transportation officer, Emergency Squad member and his devotion to training bloodhounds. He considered his fellow officers members of his family. Robert was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Breckenridge, Missouri. Robert emulated dignity, pride, strength and faith in all that he did. This too is how he faced his battle with cancer. He was a witness to many throughout his battle. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2013, from 12 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Breckenridge, Missouri, followed by graveside services at Hopewell Cemetery at 6471 E State Route F, Cowgill, Missouri 64637 with Military Honors.
