Robert "Bob" J. Hollowell Jr. Robert "Bob" Joseph Hollowell Jr., age 79, a Blue Springs, MO, resident, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2018, at 2:17pm at North Kansas City Hospital. Bob was born the son of Helen Lucille Gibbs and Robert Joseph Hollowell Sr., in New Albany, IN. He was a 1956 graduate of Mater Dei Catholic High School while growing up in Evansville, IN. Bob enlisted in the Air Force in 1957 and was assigned to the 4400th Combat Crew, later becoming the 1st Air Commando Group and the first operational unit in Vietnam sent by JFK in November of 1961. Bob retired after 21 years in the Air Force and even a short time in the Marines. He was also an East St. Louis Police Officer. After meeting at a Richards-Gebaur Dance, he married Martha (Dunn) Hollowell on November 24, 1969. She preceded him in death on September 25, 2017. Bob later retired from Independence Regional Hospital. Bob was a man of great character and a true blessing to his wife, kids, grandkids, friends, co-workers and country. Bob is survived by son, Bruce Hollowell and wife, Bobbi with grandchildren Alexa and Spencer of Liberty, MO. Survived also by daughter, Linda Schirber and husband Tony with grandchildren Leah, Kylie, and Rachel of Overland Park, KS. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Dianna Hollowell, and his parents. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2018, at 11:00 A.M. at Saint Columban's Catholic Church, Chillicothe, MO. Friends may call on Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, MO, from 12 noon until 5:00 p.m. Burial with full military honors will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, Braymer, MO.
