Rita Theresa Jones

RITA THERESA JONES Rita (Terry) Theresa Jones, 87, of Liberty, Missouri, formerly of Chillicothe and Linneus, Missouri, died Thursday, June 9, 2011 at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Missouri. She was born January 7, 1924 in Oxford, Massachusetts to Antonio and Lillian (Austin) Piette. During World War II, Rita joined the United States Naval Corp and served as a pharmacist mate at the San Diego Naval Hospital in California, where she met and married Calvin Jones. She is a member of and served in various capacities for the Linneus Historical Museum, St. Columban's Catholic Church, the Legion of Mary, the PATCH Program for the Chillicothe Women's Correctional Center, the Altar Society, the P.E.O, the American Legion Auxiliary, R.S.V.P., the Chillicothe Croquet Club and volunteer ombudsman for nursing homes in the Northeastern Missouri area. She was a volunteer in the community and church throughout her life and she enjoyed gardening, cooking, poetry, painting and sketching, croquet, and spending time with her family. Rita is survived by her husband, Calvin Jones of 65 years, three sons, James Jones, and wife Judy, of Savannah, Missouri, Paul Jones and wife Kelly of Springfield, Missouri, David Jones and wife Tamla, of Liberty, Missouri; three daughters, Carolyn Bjornson and husband Hal of Cincinnati, Ohio, Cathy Jones and husband David of Austin, Texas, and Janie DesLauriers and husband Darwin of Clark , South Dakota; fifteen grand children and eleven great-grandchild. She is also survived by one sister, Ethel Eckland of Waltham, Massachusetts; and one brother Joseph Piette of Hereford, Arizona; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Archie and Clarence and four sisters, Bertha Galkowski, Betty Carelli, Irene McKenzie, and Doris Moon. Funeral services will be held at St. Columban's Catholic Church, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at 10:00 am. A rosary with visitation immediately following will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri on Monday evening, June 13, 2011 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Burial will be at St. Columban's Catholic Cemetery in Chillicothe, Missouri.
