Richard "Dick" Matchett

November 12, 1934 — October 17, 2016

RICHARD MATCHETT Richard "Dick" Matchett, 81, passed away on October 17, 2016 at his home in High Spring, Florida after several years of failing health. He was born near Sumner, Missouri on November 12, 1934, the eighth child to Ed and Cora Matchett. Dick is preceded in death by his parents: Ed (1970) and Cora (1980), most of his ten siblings: James (1990), Mable (2002), Dorothy (1998), G. I. (2005), Nellie (1983), Donald (1994), Walter (2008), and Dixie (2011); and one great grandchild, Georgia. There are two surviving sisters, Mary Farris, Sunnyside, WA and Ellen Koch, Everett, WA. Dick married Wilma Ewell in 1953, together they had Marion, Barbara (Bobbie) and Richard (Rick). In 1975 he married Connie Arms and helped raise Connie's four children. Dick and Gloria married in 1995, Gloria remained his faithful caregiver to the end. Dick Matchett was a big rig truck driver, which he loved! He drove for Consolidated Freight for over 21 years. During this time he was awarded many safety awards and he drove over a 1,000,000 miles without a single traffic incident or moving violation. He enjoyed working on old cars and going to car races. He made cradles and such out of wood for his family. He liked buying tools, sometimes putting them to good use. While living in Nebraska and early on in Florida he would plant a big vegetable garden, particularly enjoyed growing tomatoes. Dick had a kind heart. With little education he supported and cared for all of his families. He was one of the good ones, though at times a little ornery and always stubborn. Dick is survived by Gloria, his wife of 21 years, his children and their spouses: Marion and Tom Marasco, Bobbie Pellegrino, Rick and Betty Machett, Grandchildren: Angela, Jamie, Karie, Aimee, Joshua, Justin, Christina and Sheldon. And eleven great-children. Step daughters Shannon and Courtney, ten step grandchildren and eleven step great-grandchildren. Along with several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. His loved ones believe he is in that special place where old truck drivers go, out there on the Interstate at a Truck Stop drinking a cup of coffee, telling some trucking stories, listening to old George Jones and thinking he had a pretty good life. KEEP ON TRUCKING! Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at 1:00 PM at the Cameron Cemetery near Hale, Missouri. Online condolences may be left at www.lindleyfunerahome.com .   Arrangements are under the direction of Lindley Funeral Home Chillicothe, Missouri.
