Raymond Clinton Riley

RAYMOND CLINTON RILEY Raymond Clinton Riley, 87, a long-time Chillicothe resident, passed away on September 28, 2012, at his residence in Lake Tapawingo, Missouri, where he had lived since August, 2012. Raymond was born to Denver and Carrie (Stephens) Riley on April 25, 1925, in Beeler, Kansas. While Raymond was still an infant, his family moved to Hale, Missouri, where he grew up and attended school. In 1943, Raymond was designated for service in the United States Maritime Service (Merchant Marines). Following his release from the Merchant Marines in 1944, Raymond enlisted in the United States Navy. While serving in the Navy during World War II, Raymond was stationed in Saipan. Upon being honorably discharged from the Navy in 1946, Raymond returned to Hale. Raymond subsequently moved to Chillicothe, where he served as a police officer for the Chillicothe Police Department for approximately three years beginning in 1948. On August 31, 1950, Raymond married Dorothy Reilly of Chillicothe at St. Columban's Catholic Church. Raymond later became a certified dental technician and owned and operated Riley Dental Laboratory for 63 years. Raymond also owned and operated Riley Rental Units for over 50 years. Raymond was a member of St. Columban's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Council 1084, third degree, the Chillicothe Jaycees and the Vern R. Glick American Legion Post #25. Raymond also served as a 2nd ward city councilman in Chillicothe in the early 1960's and again in the mid 1970's. In 1975, Raymond was granted a United States patent after he invented a boot and shoe drying device. Raymond had a passion for genealogy and enjoyed researching and discussing his families' history. Survivors include his wife Dorothy of the home; two sons, William (Bill) Riley and wife Debbie of Shelton, Washington, Stephen (Steve) Riley and wife Dona of Lee's Summit, Missouri, and one daughter, Mary Ann Rivera and husband Ron of Lake Tapawingo. Raymond has six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Stephen Riley and Denver (Denny) Riley, Jr., and one sister, Lavonne Hubbard. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Columban's Catholic Church, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, October 5, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. A Parish Rosary will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, on Thursday, October 4, 2012, at 6:00 p.m., with a family visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home in Chillicothe on Thursday from noon until 9:00 p.m. Burial will be held at St. Columban's Catholic Cemetery, Chillicothe, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Columban's Catholic Cemetery and/or the Kansas City Hospice and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O.
