Ray Ivan Samm, age 89, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away Monday, June 20, 2011, in Macon, Missouri. Ray was born June 13, 1922, in Farmersville, Missouri, the son of Walter and Clara P. (Wilcox) Samm. He attended the Farmersville Center School until the eighth grade. He served in the Merchant Marine during World War II. On November 20, 1939, he married Lela E. Gillespie in Chillicothe, Missouri. Survivors include his wife Lela Samm of the home; son Richard Samm and wife Elaine of Excello, Missouri; daughter Sharon Eckert and husband Noel of Townville, South Carolina; brother Cecil Samm of Chula, Missouri; sisters Christine Hawks of Kansas City, Missouri, and Lela F. Chapins of Chula, Missouri; grandchildren Glenda, Brenda, Mark, Todd, Salli and Travis; and great grandchildren Ryan, Nathan, Raegan, Elayna and Grace. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers John and Clifford; and sisters Grace, Dorothy, Hazel, and Betty. Funeral services will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Thursday, June 23, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. A family visitation will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri on Wednesday, June 22, 2011, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday after 12:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Burial will be held in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Chillicothe, Missouri.Memorial contributions may be made to Loch Haven Nursing Home, and may be left at, or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O.
