Ray E. Dawkins Ray E. Dawkins, age 87, a resident of Independence, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2011 at Carmel Hills Health Care and Rehab Center in Independence, Missouri. Ray was born the son of Cecil and Sarah (Tousley) Dawkins on April 15, 1924 in Utica, Missouri. He attended Chillicothe High School. In 1948 he was united in marriage to Paddy Jo Chase in Chillicothe, Missouri. She preceded him in death on July 7, 1991. He was in the Army Airborne during WWII, Korea, and Vietnam and retired after twenty two years of service. After he retired he owned his own painting business and worked as a painter in Caon City, Colorado. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW in Chillicothe and Independence, Missouri, and also the Moose Lodge in Chillicothe, Missouri. Survivors include one brother, Bernard Dawkins of St. Louis, Missouri; one sister, Betty Jo Beaird and husband Howard of Chillicothe, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Helen Dawkins of Moberly, Missouri; nieces and nephews, Lyle Beaird of Independence, Missouri, Linda Chittum and husband Rob of Independence, Missouri, Nancy Parks and husband John of Chillicothe, Missouri, David Dawkins of Moberly, Missouri, Ronald Dawkins of Moberly, Missouri, Rusty Dawkins and Amy Dawkinsof St. Louis, Missouri; several great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister LaVerna; brother Nolan Dawkins; and one infant brother Charles Ivan. Graveside services will be held at the Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Monday, October 31, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home on Sunday, October 30, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the VFW Post #858 and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O.
