Phyllis L. Pence, age 85, a resident of Liberty, Missouri, passed away on Friday, September 16, 2011 at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Missouri. Phyllis Lou Stockwell Pence was born in Moravia, Iowa, on January 18, 1926 the daughter of Lester E. and Victoria M. (Huff) Stockwell. She attended school in Iowa and Missouri. She moved to Chillicothe, Missouri in 1944. Phyllis married Walter Eugene Pence on September 1, 1957 in Chillicothe, Missouri. Phyllis and Walter owned Pence Café on the north side of the square in Chillicothe. Walt preceded her in death on May 23, 2009. She was a member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Chillicothe and Liberty, Missouri, having taught Church School, serving as a Deaconess and Elder for many years. She was also a charter member and past President of Tria Sorosis, and a member of Chapter T, P.E.O. She is survived by two daughters, Carol Gregg and husband Mel of Chillicothe, Missouri, and Sharon Bryant and husband Dirk of Lee's Summit, Missouri; six grandchildren: Ashley, Cory, and Anne Gregg; Drake, Collin, and Eric Bryant and her sister-in-law, Dottie Stockwell. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Walter, and a brother, Richard Stockwell. Graveside services will be held at Edgewood Cemetery in Chillicothe, Missouri on Monday, September 19, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. Friends may call or come by the funeral home on Sunday, September 18, 2011 from 12 noon until 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers can be made to the First Christian Church of Chillicothe, Missouri, Operation Help of Chillicothe, or the Liberty Christian Church of Liberty, Missouri and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O.
