Opal Luvern Steen

Opal Steen, age 101, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, January 31, 2013, at Indian Hills Retirement Village, Chillicothe, Missouri. Opal was born the daughter of Charles and Belle (Starr) Benskin on December 20, 1911, in Grundy Co., Missouri. She was united in marriage to Lee Steen on November 8, 1933, in Hamilton, Missouri. He preceded her in death on May 26, 1996. Opal was a member of the Baptist Church. She was very active in the church and was a member of the Women's Missionary Union. She loved knitting, crocheting, and reading. Survivors include one daughter, Aggie Steen, of Chillicothe, Missouri; one brother, Earl Benskin and wife, Elizabeth of Chillicothe, Missouri; one sister, Lucille Bradford, of Kansas City, Missouri; two grandchildren, Andrea Jonson, of Kansas City, Missouri, and Cameron Jonson, of Topeka, Kansas; two great-grandchildren, Tori and Braxton Jonson. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son Tim Steen; one brother, Russell Benskin; and sister, Irene Boyd. Funeral services will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Monday, February 4, 2013, at 11:00 A.M. A scheduled family visitation will be Monday, February 4, 2013, from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri on Sunday, February 3, 2013, from 12 noon until 5 P.M. Burial will be held at Edgewood Cemetery, Chillicothe, Missouri.
