Opal Fern Jones Opal Fern Jones, age 84, a former resident of Ludlow, Missouri, passed away on Friday, June 8, 2012, at Hedrick Medical Center, Chillicothe, Missouri. Opal was born the daughter of Virgil Otis and Viola Susan (Fifer) Holder on May 30, 1928, in Rockingham, Missouri. She was a 1946 graduate of Dawn High School. She was united in marriage to Clarence Mattox on September 7, 1947 at Simpson Park in Chillicothe, Missouri. She then was united in marriage to Ernest E. Jones on August 17, 1962, in Dawn, Missouri. They both preceded her in death. Opal moved from Cameron, Missouri, to Ludlow, Missouri, in 1993. She attended the Church of the Brethren and the Dawn Federated Church. Opal was a homemaker and worked as a waitress at the Old Red Ball restaurant in Chillicothe. Opal had a love for animals, music, dancing, square-dancing, dancing parties at her home in Ludlow, and reading Western books by Louis L'amour. Survivors include two sons, Larry Mattox of Independence, Missouri, and John W. Lacy of Independence, Missouri; one daughter Shirley Turner of Jamesport, Missouri; two grandchildren, Jackie Turner, Mayor of Jamesport and wife Brenda of Jamesport, Missouri, and Tammy Curtis and Dean Wray of Jamesport, Missouri; nine great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Clarence Mattox; husband Ernest E. Jones. Funeral services will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. A family visitation will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Tuesday, June 12, 2012, one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Friends may call the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Monday, June 11, 2012, from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Burial will be held in Monroe Cemetery, Ludlow, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the Forrest O' Triplett Animal Shelter and/or the Monroe Cemetery and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601.
