Melvin "Mel" Dean Brown Mel Brown, age 59, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on Monday, August 24, 2015, at his home. Mel was born the son of Harvey Dean and Betty Sue (Ellis) Brown on January 2, 1956, in Mulvane, Kansas. He was a 1974 graduate of Shawnee Mission West High School, Shawnee Mission, Kansas. He then attended Pitts State University. He was united in marriage to Tamara Jeanette Carpenter on June 10, 1978, at Unity Village in Lee's Summit, Missouri. She survives of the home. They moved to Chillicothe, Missouri, in 2002 from Gardner, Kansas. Mel worked as a Senior Director of print operations and plant manager at Gear for Sports for seventeen years before retiring in December 31, 2014. He was a member and former board member of the Chillicothe Country Club, a board member for the Grand River YMCA, a member of the Chillicothe Elks Lodge 656, and Chillicothe Rotary. Mel enjoyed bass fishing, playing golf, scuba diving and spending time with his good friends. He loved his wife and family. Survivors include wife Tamara Brown of the home; brother Jim Brown and wife Janie of Paola, Kansas; nieces Ginger and husband Randy Barnhart, Holly Malkames, and Erin Carpenter; nephew Don Day; great-nieces Lindsay Malkames, Mallory Barnhart, and Meredith Barnhart; and great-nephews Macy Barnhart, Jamey Day and Blake Malkames; and mother-in-law Jan Carpenter. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Carolyn Sue (Brown) Day; and father-in-law Harold Carpenter. A celebration of life will be held at the Chillicothe Country Club, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Thursday, August 27, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Wednesday, August 26, 2015, from 12 noon until 5:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Fellowship of Christian Athletes Jr. Golf Camp and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O.
