Melvin H. McDonnal, age 71, a resident of Kearney, Missouri, passed away at Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield, California, on Sunday, February 6, 2011. He was born the son of Howard Joseph and Mary Ellen (Thomas) McDonnal, on May 16, 1939, in Utica, Missouri. He was a 1957 graduate of Chillicothe High School. On July 12, 1959, he married Beverly Jean Sidden, in Mooresville, Missouri. She survives of the home. He lived most of his life in Chillicothe, Missouri, where he worked in the retail lumber business for many years, starting at the age of 17 when he worked at Mills Brothers Lumber. He was a member and also a Deacon and Elder of the First Christian Church, Chillicothe, Missouri. He served as Mayor of Chillicothe, Missouri and was also a Councilman at Large. He was a member of the CHS Booster Club, and the CHS School Board. He served as Cub Scout Leader was in the Tribe of Mic- O- Say. He served as a member of the Chillicothe Lions Club, the Chillicothe Elks 656, and the Men's Democratic Club. He enjoyed spending his time fishing, hunting, and spending time at the coffee shop talking with friends. Survivors include his wife, Beverly of the home; three sons, Jeff and wife Dawn McDonnal of Winnipeg Manitoba, Canada, Chuck and wife Tracy McDonnal of St. Charles, Missouri, Mike and wife Jane McDonnal of Overland Park, Kansas; six grandchildren; and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother-in-law Richard Sidden; one granddaughter, Lauren Elizabeth McDonnal. Memorial services will be held at the First Christian Church, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Saturday, February 12, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. There is no scheduled family visitation. There will be family fellowship after the service in the basement of the First Christian Church, Chillicothe, Missouri.
