Mary Rose West, age 72, a resident of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2013, at Arbor View Healthcare, St. Joseph, Missouri. Mary was born the daughter of George and Hazel (Stuckey) Riegel on May 20, 1941, in Braymer, Missouri. Mary graduated from Braymer High School in 1959. She was united in marriage to George West on April 28, 1968, in Braymer, Missouri. He preceded her in death on September 25, 2010. Mary worked as a secretary for the Mid West Motor Freight Bureau for ten years. She and her husband, George, co-founded the Catholic Engaged Encounter in Kansas City in 1975, which is now a national and international organization. She was a member of the St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, Windsor, Missouri; she was actively involved in the church as well as Alcoholics Anonymous for families and teens, she loved to knit and spending time with her family. In May of 2012 Mary moved to St. Joseph, Missouri, prior to that she resided in Moravia, Iowa, Windsor, Missouri, Kansas City, Missouri, and Braymer, Missouri. Survivors include one brother, Jack Riegel and wife Phyllis of Mount Morris, Illinois; one sister-in-law, Winnie Wyrick of Bonner Springs, Kansas; seven nieces, Sharon McDanel of Moravia, Iowa, Nancy Hatfield of Moravia, Iowa, Gerda Clark of Mount Morris, Illinois, Sherri Stark of Bonner Springs, Kansas, Kelly Miller, of Overland Park, Kansas, Penni Warner of Warrensburg, Missouri, and Jill Smith of St. Joe, Missouri; two nephews Tom Wyrick of Bonner Springs, Kansas, and Andy Riegel of Mt. Morris, Illinois; and several great nieces and nephews. She also had eight grandchildren, Skylar, Smith, Mary beth Warner, Allyah Smith, Trey Smith, Weston Warner, Azariah Smith, Charlie Warner, and Everett Warner. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband George; three brothers, Bob Wyrick, Dale Riegel, and Tom Riegel; two nephews, Kenneth Wyrick and Joe Riegel; one niece Karen Riegel; and one sister-in-law LaVerna Riegel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Columban's Catholic Church, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. A Parish Rosary will be held at the St. Columban's Catholic Church, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. with a family visitation to follow until 11:30 a.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Pitts Funeral Home, Braymer, Missouri, on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 from 12 noon until 7:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, Braymer, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the Evergreen Cemetery and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601.
