Mary Elizabeth Nigus Mary Elizabeth Nigus, age 87, passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at Indian Hills Retirement Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, after a long bout with pulmonary disease. Mary was born on November 14, 1926, in rural Dawn, Missouri, to parents McKinley and Hazel Timbrook Jones. She was Valedictorian of her 1944 Dawn High School graduating class, and also attended Chillicothe Business College in 1945. Mary married Marion Gene Nigus on June 17, 1945, in Chillicothe, Missouri. They operated a farm one mile south of Dawn and were active in the Dawn Federated Church. In 1956, the family moved to Hale, Missouri, where Mary and Marion farmed for 55 years prior to retiring to Indian Hills in 2011. Mary served as Hale PTA President and Hale Methodist Church WSCS President. She was a collector of coins, stamps, dolls, and Hallmark Christmas ornaments. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and traveling. Mary's ready smile and kind manner endeared her to everyone she met. She will be missed by all. Survivors her husband, Marion of 68 years; two sons, Steve Nigus and wife Annabelle of St. Charles, Missouri, and Monty Nigus and wife Sharon of Folsom, California; two daughters, Margo Mallory and husband Dowell, and Shelley Watkins both of Chillicothe, Missouri; eleven grandchildren; and fifteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Kenneth W. Jones and Victor Lee Jones. Funeral services will be held at the Hale United Methodist Church, Hale, Missouri, on Saturday, May 17, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. A scheduled family visitation will be held at the Hale United Methodist Church, Hale, Missouri, on Saturday, May 17, 2014, one hour prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Hale, Missouri, on Friday, May 16, 2014, from 12 noon until 8:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Hale Memorial Gardens, Hale, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hale United Methodist Church and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601.
