Mary Ann Moore

May 30, 1920 — July 30, 2018

Mary Anne Moore Mary Anne Moore born May 30th, 1920 died at 98 years old, on July 30th, 2018.   Mary was the oldest daughter to Allen Moore II and Helen Huey Moore. Her Father was the President of the Chillicothe Business College. This was while Mary, and her two younger siblings, Martha Amma, and Allen "Buddie" Moore III, were growing up in Chillicothe during the 20s, 30s, and 40s. This institution at its height was at one time, the largest business college in the United States, hosting Harry S. Truman to speak in its auditorium, while he was a Senator for Missouri, in 1941.   Mary graduated from Chillicothe High school in 1939, attended Ward Belmont, a Southern Ladies refined school, in Nashville, TN, from '39-'40, and later returning in '49 as their first Alumnae Secretary until its closing in 1951. She spent one year at Connecticut College, transferred and graduating at the University of Mo, Columbia, with an art major degree in 1943. While there she pledged Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, and with her sister, were active alums in this organization the rest of their lives.   After college graduation, Mary returned to Chillicothe, keeping a promise to her Dad, and attending Chillicothe Business College, receiving a diploma in the complete Business Course in 1944. This included her training in bookkeeping, accounting, dictation, transcription, typewriting, switchboard operation, mimeograph operation, letter writing of various different formats from sales to commercial law, spelling, penmanship, and shorthand theory. She then taught Shorthand theory at the CBC, as a substitute over the summer, before moving on to her first secretarial position at Central College in Fayette, Mo., later to Ward Belmont, as previously mentioned, and for a time in Washington D.C. for The Armco International Corporation. This appointment was during WWII, until she was called home in 1946 to help her Mother with her Father's stroke and aftermath of death, soon thereafter.   Mary then moved onto graduate school for Psychology, in Indiana, met her first husband, Patrick Arneson, married in 1952, then raising a family in Minnesota. They were happily married for 17 years until his death in 1969. Mary remained in the family home throughout the children's rearing, delighting in Motherhood, spending time with friends, doing volunteer work at the local hospital, and Episcopal church, her various clubs of Kappa, P.E.O., and Garden Club, and later working first in Bridal wear at Daytons, and then as a secretary to a Sunday school minister at Colonial church.   Finally tired of the winters, Mary retired in AZ where she met her second husband, Bob Liddell, while singing in the Episcopal choir. He was an international orchid judge, and they together enjoyed 19 years of traveling and a busy and fun home life of dancing, club affiliations, get together with friends, holidays with family, and time of grand parenthood, with Mary's grandson, whom he called her Nama, as her daughter had called her Mother, the same.   Mary was a deeply loving person, a joy to her parents, devoted to her siblings, cherished wife by her husbands, blessed Mother to her children and grandson, beloved Aunt to her nieces and nephews, and treasured friend by all who knew her.   She is survived by her son, daughter, and grandson, brother, his wife, nieces, and nephews.   Her funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 11th at two o'clock p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, 421 Elm Street in Chillicothe, and laid to rest in Edgewood Cemetery, next to her first husband, Pat, her children's adored Father. Online condolences may be made at www.lindleyfuneralhomes.com .   Arrangements are under the direction of Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri.
