Mary Layola McBee, age 83, a resident of Braymer, Missouri, passed away from cancer on Sunday, November 29, 2020, at her home.
Mary was born November 19, 1937, in Saline County, Kansas, to Phillip Claude and Pauline Geneva Weis. She attended and graduated high school in Braymer, Missouri. She married Lavere "Buck" McBee March 22, 1980. She worked at the Chillicothe Correctional Center for more than fifty years, where she was the first female Major in the State. Mary enjoyed designing and making the most beautiful quilts which she loved giving to family and friends. She also loved raising vegetables and growing flowers which she generously shared with everyone.
Mary is survived by her husband Lavere "Buck" McBee of the home; her children Debbie and Alan Hall, Plattsburg, Missouri, and Joe and Lori Drummond, Liberty, Missouri; stepchildren, Teresa Akers, Trenton, Missouri, Sonny and Wanda McBee, Cowgill, Missouri, Lavere McBee, Lisa Pierce, and Ronnie Pierce, all of Braymer, Missouri. Mary is also survived by five grandchildren, nine step grandchildren, four great grandchildren and twelve step great grandchildren; one brother, Leonard Weis of Braymer, Missouri; and two sisters, Yvonne Murray of Braymer, Missouri, and Judy Claypole and husband George of Georgetown, Missouri. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; twin sons, Michael and Mitchell Drummond; and brothers, Rodney and Virgil Weis.
Graveside services will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, Braymer, Missouri, on Friday, December 4, 2020, at 10:30 a.m. A scheduled visitation will be held at the Lindley Pitts Funeral Home, Braymer, Missouri, on Friday, December 4, 2020, from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Friends may call at the Lindley Pitts Funeral Home, Braymer, Missouri, on Thursday, December 3, 2020, from 12 noon until 6:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Evergreen Cemetery and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O.
