Mary Margaret Lightner
Mary Margaret Lightner, age 97, a long-time resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2021, at St. Luke's Hospice House, Kansas City, Missouri.
Mary was born the daughter of Robert and Mary (Murphy) Braden on February 9, 1923, in Utica, Missouri. She was a graduate of Utica High School, and was united in marriage to William "Bill" Lightner on February 1, 1947, in Utica, Missouri.
Mary retired as a bookkeeper at H&R Block, Chillicothe, Missouri. She was a member of many organizations which included the American Legion Auxiliary; Daughters of the American Revolution; Garden Club; Jolly Janes; The Forty and Eight; Knights of Columbus Auxiliary; Altar Society; Grand River Historical Society; and the Board of R. S. V. P.
She volunteered at Meals on Wheels and special events at St. Columban Catholic Church, showing her grandchildren the importance of helping others. Her faith was very important to her, and she attended Mass regularly and prayed the Rosary every day.
Some of her many interests included playing Bridge, teaching her grandchildren card games, fishing at the lake, crocheting, quilting, watching the Kansas Chiefs, Royals and the Missouri Tigers, attending her grandchildren and great grandchildren events, reading and just spending time with her many friends and large family.
Survivors include children, Denny Lightner and wife, Joyce, of Raymore, Missouri, Janet Kesler of Muncie, Indiana, Robert Lightner and wife, Phyllis, of Stilwell, Kansas, and Pamela Bruce of Kansas City, Missouri; fourteen grandchildren; thirty-four great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and one sister, Cornelia Dietrich of Teaneck, New Jersey. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and three brothers; John Braden, Harold Braden and Edward Braden.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Columban Catholic Church, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Wednesday, February 3, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. A private Parish Rosary will be held for the family prior to the funeral. Friends may call at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Tuesday, February 2, 2021, from 12:00 noon until 8:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday, February 3, 2021, from 8:00 a.m. until 12 noon. Burial will be held at the St. Columban Catholic Cemetery, Chillicothe, Missouri.
