Mary E. Butcher, age 78, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away Saturday, January 15, 2011, at Hedrick Medical Center in Chillicothe, Missouri. She was born the daughter of Jesse and Elva (Killebrew) Sherwin on May 21, 1932, in Patterson Township, Illinois. She was a 1950 graduate of Roodhouse High School in Roodhouse, Illinois. She moved to Chillicothe and enrolled in the Chillicothe Business College and graduated in 1951. On June 22, 1952, she married Donald Butcher in Winchester, Illinois. He preceded her in death on September 30, 1993. Mary was the co-owner with her husband of Butcher's Grocery Store on 3rd street in Chillicothe, Missouri for 39 years. She was a member of the Highview Baptist Church of Chillicothe, Missouri. Mary loved to travel, including trips to the southern and western states with family and friends, a trip to Alaska in 2004, and trips to Branson, Missouri. She loved to volunteer at Highview Baptist Church and the Senior Center in Chillicothe, Missouri. She is survived by one sister, Wilma Sherwin of Lynchburg, Virginia; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and their families in Illinois and Pennsylvania; and a sister-in-law, Mary Louise Sherwin of Roodhouse, Illinois. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jesse E. Sherwin and John L. Sherwin, and sister Winifred Sherwin. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri. There will be no scheduled family visitation. Friends may call on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 from 12 noon until 9:00 p.m. at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri. Burial will be at the Edgewood Cemetery, Chillicothe, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the Highview Baptist Church of Chillicothe, Missouri and may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the Lindley Funeral Home, P.O.
