Marilyn A. Dowell, age 84, passed away at her residence in Chillicothe, Missouri, surrounded by her family, on Monday, January 10, 2011. She was born the daughter of Paul and Effie (Flenniken) Freed in Chillicothe, Missouri on June 30, 1926. She attended Chillicothe High School and graduated from Westport High School in Kansas City Missouri. On April 6, 1946, she was married to Captain L.E. Dowell, USAF, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He preceded her in death on January 5, 1957. She worked for the Division of Youth Services and Department of Corrections for the State of Missouri for 27 years. Marilyn was also a member of the Gold Star Wives of America for 60 years, a member of the Sorosis of Chillicothe, and a member of the United Methodist Church of Chillicothe. She is survived by one son; Richard Dowell and wife Jeannie of Grand Junction, Colorado; one daughter, Dana Wilhite and husband Jim of St. Louis, Missouri; and one grandchild, Carmele Lauber and husband Matt of Tucson, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Paul E. Freed. Funeral services will be announced on a later date.
