Margaret Isabel Gates
Margaret Isabel Gates, age 100, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on Monday, October 7, 2024, at Hedrick Medical Center, Chillicothe, Missouri.
Margaret was born on September 15, 1924, in Bedford, Missouri, the daughter of Andy and Hettie (Wilson) Hibler. On May 10, 1940, she was united in marriage to Earnest “Bud” Gates in Linneus, Missouri. He preceded her in death on April 19, 2005.
Margaret liked to sew, she pieced together dozens of quilts, crocheted and embroidered towels for her family. She always had a large garden or two each year, and shared her vegetables with her family. She was known for her Christmas candy, decorated sugar cookies, chocolate dessert and snack mix. Margaret loved to cook holiday dinners, and her home was overflowing at times with family members. She thoroughly enjoyed the Saturday mornings that she spent at the Farmer’s Market with her neighbor, Donna Kay.
She is survived by two sons, Glen Gates of Chillicothe, Missouri, Brad Gates and wife Sue of Chillicothe, Missouri; one daughter, Linda Maples of Humble, Texas; two sisters, Violet “Porky” Williams of Independence, Missouri and Shirley Anderson of Chillicothe, Missouri, five grandchildren, Gil Gates and wife Karen of Chillicothe, Missouri, Marci Dodd of Kingwood, Texas, Ginger Jones and husband Patrick of Chillicothe, Missouri, Chris Gates and wife Olivia of McPherson, Kansas, and Jeff Gates and wife Patty of Wentzville, Missouri; fifteen great grandchildren, Gabrielle (Dustin) Thompson, Geana (Drew) Dudley, and Gillen Gates of Chillicothe, Missouri, Ashlee (Ryan) Patterson of Cypress, Texas, Hallee (Brennen) Bonderer of Kearney, Missouri, Hannah Jones of Chillicothe, Missouri, Kyle Dodd of Cypress, Texas, Sean (Keragan) Gates, Eleanor Gates, Chloe Gates, Lilyana Gates, Ruth Gates and Milo Gates of McPherson, Kansas, Kaitlyn and Alex Gates of Wentzville, Missouri; one step-great-grandchild, Jessica (Danny) Griffin of Jamesport, Missouri; twelve great-great grandchildren; two step great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earnest; brothers, Leo Hibler, Bobby Hibler and Junior Hibler; sister, Velma Scott, and an infant son, Terry Lynn Gates.
Graveside services will be held at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, October 11, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. There is no scheduled visitation. Friends may call at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Thursday, October 10, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Chula Fire Department or Alzheimer’s Association and may be left at or be mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O.
