Leonard Priest Leonard Priest, age 91, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, former resident of Independence, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2014, at Heartland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph, Missouri. Leonard was born the son of Silas L. and Cleo (Hink) Priest on February 13, 1923, in North Platte, Nebraska. He was a 1941 graduate of North Platte High School, North Platte, Nebraska, where he was a member of FFA and ran track. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Leonard was united in marriage to Clarice Marie Ubben on April 3, 1949, in North Platte, Nebraska. She preceded him in death on September 16, 2003. In 1953, he moved from North Platte, Nebraska, to Denver, Colorado. He worked as a Truck Driver for Time DC in Denver, Colorado, for over 30 years. He was a member of the Teamsters Local 41 of Kansas City, Missouri. Leonard moved from Denver, Colorado, to Independence, Missouri, in 1977. He was a member of the King of Glory Lutheran Church, Independence, Missouri, where he served as a Deacon. Leonard enjoyed bowling. His main priority was his family. He was proud of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He moved from Independence, Missouri, in 2009, to Chillicothe, Missouri. Survives include one son, Alan Priest and wife Regina of Warrensburg, Missouri; one daughter Amy Gertz and husband Kim of Hamilton, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Adam Priest, Amber Priest, and Cassie Priest all of Warrensburg, Missouri, Camien Gertz and fiancé Caleb Reep of Aurora, Colorado, Jeramie Gertz and wife Michelle of San Antonio, Texas, Hannah Gertz and fiancé Chris Fisher of Lawson, Missouri, Kristopher Gertz of Hamilton, Missouri, and Gunnar Gertz of St. Joseph, Missouri; seven great grandchildren; and one brother, Herman Priest and wife Edith of Anaheim, California. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Clarice; and two sisters, Helen Branting and Martha Gilpin. Funeral services will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Saturday, February 22, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. A scheduled family visitation will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, February 21, 2014, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, February 21, 2014, from 12 noon until 8:00 p.m. Burial will be held at North Platte Cemetery, North Platte, Nebraska, at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601.
