Leland J. O'Dell, age 77, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away at his residence, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Sunday April 18, 2010. He was born on August 17, 1932, the son of James C. and Ada V. (Blackwell) O'Dell in Linn County, Missouri. He was a 1950 graduate of Brookfield High School. He served in the United States Navy from 1951 until 1955. On October 16, 1959, he married Barbara Renshaw in Brookfield, Missouri. She survives him of the home. He operated O'Dell moving from 1957 until 1964. Leland worked for the Livingston County Sheriff's Department from 1962 until 1977. In 1977 Leland was elected Sheriff and served as the Livingston County Sheriff until 1997. After retiring as Sheriff he worked for Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri. He was a member of the Missouri Amphibious Navy, Missouri Sheriff's Association where he served as the first Vice President in 1996. He was also a member of Friendship Lodge Number 89 AF & AM, Chillicothe Shrine Club, Moilia Temple in St. Joseph, Chillicothe Elk 656, Vern R. Glick Post Number 25, Livingston County Men's Democratic Club and the National Sheriffs Association. He is also survived by one son Rick O'Dell and daughter-in-law Robyn of Cincinnati, Ohio; two daughters Lisa Kissick and son-in-law Paul of Kirksville, Missouri, Lana Kilmer and son-in-law Billy of Brookfield, Missouri, one brother Bob O'Dell of Bucklin, Missouri; twelve grandchildren Peyton and Jensen O'Dell of Cincinnati, Ohio, Ron Kissick of Independence, Missouri, Aron Gerhart of Chillicothe, Missouri, Amy Swartz and grandson-in-law Daniel of Liberty, Missouri, Amber Marshall and grandson-in-law Jarrod, of Chillicothe, Missouri, Jordan Kissick of Kirksville, Missouri, Lance Douglas of Chillicothe, Missouri, Lindsey Douglas of Brookfield, Missouri, Lacey Lake and grandson-in-law Tony of Brookfield, Missouri, Zachery Kilmer of North Carolina and Benjamin Kilmer of Murphy, North Carolina; thirteen great grandchildren, Montana Hall of Chillicothe, Missouri, Vyctoria Stoner of Brookfield, Missouri, Anastasia Stone, Talan Lake and Abbigail Lake all of Brookfield, Missouri, Connor, Kyan and Matthew Hobbs, Alivia Gerhart, Jack and Jameson Marshall, all of Chillicothe, Missouri, Emma Kissick of Independence, Missouri, Evie Swartz of Liberty, Missouri and Kamlyn Gannan, of Brookfield, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Loren O'Dell and one sister Barbara June O'Dell. Services will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. There will be a Masonic Service at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. with a family visitation to follow. Friends may call after 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday and from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery, Chillicothe, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children or Hedrick Medical Center Hospice and may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the Lindley Funeral Home, P.O.
