Lela Evelyn Samm Lela Evelyn Samm, age 88, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2011 at Loch Haven Nursing Home in Macon, Missouri. Lela was born the daughter of Norman and Winnie (Bowe) Gillespie on June 19, 1923 in Livingston County, Missouri. On November 20, 1939 Lela was united in marriage with Ray Samm. He preceded her in death on June 20, 2011. Lela was a member of the First Baptist Church in Keytesville, Missouri and regularly attended the Calvary Baptist Church in Chillicothe. Lela was employed in the glove manufacturing industry by the Lambert Glove Factory in Chillicothe, Missouri for 38 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, wall papering, and she sang and played piano at many funeral services over the years. Survivors include one son, Richard Samm and wife Elaine of Excello, Missouri; one daughter, Sharon Eckert and husband Noel of Townville, South Carolina; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Lois Gillespie. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ray; one brother Bill Gillespie; and one sister Lena Frances Arr. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 16, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri. There will be a scheduled family visitation on Thursday, December 15, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri. Friends may call on Thursday from 12 noon until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be held at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Chillicothe, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church and may be left at or mailed to the Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601.
