Larry Allen Johnston
Larry Allen Johnston, 85, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, peacefully went to be with his Lord on Friday, March 8, 2019.
He was born September 30, 1933, in Mendon, Missouri. He was brought up by a single mother and raised during his formative years during the Great Depression. During this time, he learned how to be successful at business whether it was delivering newspapers, selling strawberries, mowing yards, or doing odd jobs for his neighbors. He also developed a life-long taste for chocolate, Dr. Pepper, and roller skating.
He developed a fondness for his native state of Missouri and would tell anyone that you could always find everything in Missouri. He graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1951 and left to serve in the U.S. Army as a helicopter mechanic in 1954. Upon completion of his service, he attended the University of Missouri-Columbia. He graduated from the School of Business in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. While a student, he met the love of his life Gloria Gay Fenner at the Empire Roller Rink.
Larry married Gloria in 1957. They were blessed to be married sixty years. Larry and Gloria started many businesses during their 60 years together. They always operated as a team. Gloria focused on raising the family of four, keeping the books and office, and Larry worked whatever business he had going and many times, multiple businesses at the same time.
Larry was an entrepreneur. His main business was created in 1964 and known as Johnston Heating and Cooling. He was also involved in the home and apartment rental business, home construction, farming, and raising cattle.
Larry leaves behind a large family of sons, a daughter, grandchildren, and soon-to-be great grandchildren, all who have benefited from his wisdom, creativity, kindness, love of life, strong work ethic, family values, and common sense. To say that Larry lived a full life is an understatement.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria of the home. He is also survived by his children, David (Mary) Johnston, Richard (Sally) Johnston, Susan Shayce Johnston, Robert (Angie) Johnston, and grandchildren Jesse Mixson, Alexander Lucido-Johnston, Steven Minski, Elena Mixson, Antonina Lucido-Johnston, Riley Mixson, Maxwell Johnston, and Brionna Johnston, in addition to numerous nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Jesse Mildred Riddle Morse, his father Leo Johnston, and his sister Betty Morse Staton.
