Kendall Ray Simpson shuffled off his mortal coil on November 8, 2023, at the age of 64. Kendall’s family and friends will celebrate his life on Saturday, November 11 at 1:30 p.m. at LifeMission Church, 16111 S. Lone Elm Road, Olathe, KS 66062.
Kendall was born on May 19, 1959 in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. He is survived by Joy Simpson; their children Kevin (Sarah), Janice Angell (Gavin), and Curtis; grandchildren Noah, Judah, Noel, and Emmeline; and his sisters Carol Rindom, Linda Shanks, and Glenda Seifert. His parents, Roy and Lenore Simpson, preceded him in death.
Kendall was raised in Sedalia, Missouri. As a young man, he felt God’s calling to the mission field, and he traveled with his family to Liberia and Guyana to preach the Gospel. Kendall and his family returned to Missouri in 1996 before ultimately settling in Olathe, Kansas. There, Kendall began his second career as print shop coordinator at Olathe Medical Center, where he worked for ten years. During that time, he also served as pastor of Mount Herman Baptist Church in Sedalia.
In 2006, Kendall pursued his lifelong interest in the medical field by enrolling in the nursing program at MidAmerica Nazarene University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Kendall served as a Registered Nurse for the rest of his working years.
Kendall was a student of history, theology, photography, medicine, and countless obscure and diverse subjects, such as John Brown and Ha Ha Tonka Castle. Although a devout Christian, Kendall’s worldview was nevertheless heterodox and uniquely his own. He always had a supply of pens stowed in his shirt’s pocket protector, and his wristwatch had a calculator long before Apple existed. His humor was self-deprecating and sharp. We will miss him dearly.
