Kathryn Lou Baker Kathryn Lou Baker, age 88, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at Indian Hills Retirement Village, Chillicothe, Missouri. Kathryn was born the daughter of Ralph Charles and Gertrude (Bales) Baker on April 14, 1928, in Norborne, Missouri. Her childhood was spent in the rural areas of Tina and Hale. She was a 1946 graduate of Hale High School, where she was Valedictorian. Kathryn accepted her first teaching job at Blue Mound, a rural school south of Chillicothe, from 1946 until 1948, while she was working on her degree at the University of Central Missouri. Kathryn then moved to Roswell, New Mexico, to teach from 1951 until 1962. Upon her return to Missouri she received her Master's degree in 1961. She then went on to receive her Doctorate degree from Indiana University. Kathryn accepted position from the University of Central Missouri, as Assistant Professor of Office Administration in the Harmon College of Business. Kathryn was active in several of the clubs affiliated at UCM for this continued the remainder of her life. Kathryn was a member of Delta Zeta Greek sorority and was in Delta Sigma Pi, an honorary academic organization. She also worked for Mid-Continent/Braniff Airlines, Skelly Oil Company, Fraternal Order of Eagles in Kansas City, Missouri, and Humble Oil Company in Roswell, New Mexico. Her retirement was spent living in Chillicothe, Missouri. She continued to be a devoted sister, aunt, and cousin. She was known for always giving lovely and thoughtful gifts that were expertly wrapped. She enjoyed reading the paper, and listening to the radio. Kathryn paid particular attention to the current weather and its effects on surrounding farming. She attended the United Methodist Church in Chillicothe, Missouri. Kathryn enjoyed traveling, and had been to Canada, Mexico, the Orient (Philippines, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan), and throughout the United States. She also enjoyed reading, photography, crafts, American Indian culture, antiques/collectibles, and staying abreast of business/economic trends. Survivors include one brother, Willard Baker of Lenexa, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Tuesday, July 26, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Monday, July 25, 2016, from 12 noon until 8:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Avalon Cemetery, Avalon, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to Avalon Cemetery and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601.
