June Ann Peterson

June 9, 1936 — October 3, 2014

June Ann Peterson June Ann Peterson, 78, a devoted wife and loving mother, died peacefully in her home of natural causes and went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 3, 2014. June, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Kolar, was born in Chicago, Illinois on June 9, 1936. She was preceded by her father, mother and sister Delores, and is survived by her husband, Armand Peterson, children Kent Joseph Peterson, Kirk Armand Peterson and Kara Lyn Rounkles, daughters-in-law Sally Ann Peterson and Janet Lyn Peterson, son-in-law Bobby Rounkles, and 11 grandchildren: Grant, Garrett and Gabe Peterson; Mary Kate, Grace, Samuel, Audrey and Joshua Peterson; and Elizabeth, Claire & Abbey Rounkles. A graduate of Morton Junior College with an Associate of Art degree, June married Armand Peterson on April 9, 1960. Armand and June have made Chillicothe their home since 1964. Whether it was providing a tape ministry to cover speaking events, opening her lake house to youth, or counseling inmates at the women's prison, June's acts of service and her heart of mercy have been evident to all she encountered with a need. June was a member of the United Methodist Church for 25 years, where she was active in youth ministry, Boy Scout Troop 120, and put her artistic talents on display creating banners for the church sanctuary. She has been a member at Cornerstone Church for 27 years, where her artistic talents remain on display through the stain glass window she created for the church's sanctuary. June was an active member of the Single Mom's Bible Study at Cornerstone, as well as the Life Center Food pantry, which provides food to the needy. In addition tfo her service through the church, June was active in Women's Aglow, Gideon's Auxiliary, P.E.O., and the Christian Transitional Housing and Training Center, a women's prison ministry she and Armand have run for the past four years. June especially loved Camp Farthest Out, a non-denominational camp she attended in Kansas, where she explained she received unconditional love in such a profound way that it forever impacted her life. "The Servant's Reward" by Roy Lessin is an apt tribute to June: One day, when you are in heaven, someone will come up to you and thank you for the way you touched their life with hope and encouragement. The person's words will take you by surprise. Soon another person will seek you out, and then another, and another. As you listen to each one's story, you will begin to discovery all the ways that God used your life when you were completely unaware of it. You will find that it was not only through the big things you did, but also through the small thingsthrough a spoken word that was not planned, a spontaneous act of kindness, a loving attitude, or sample prayer of concern. To your joy, you will discover that in all these ways and more, God used you to deposit an eternal measure of His love into many needy hearts. A celebration of June's life will be held at Cornerstone Church, 900 Adam Drive, Chillicothe, Missouri on Sunday October 12, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Camp Farthest Out or the Christian Transitional Housing & Training Center may be left in June's honor at Cornerstone Church. A private family inurnment will be held at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Chillicothe, Missouri. Arrangements are under the direction of Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri.
