Joyce Elaine Eddy

Joyce Elaine Eddy, age 71, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at her home. She was born the daughter of Joy S. and Gladys (Cox) Harper on March 3, 1953 in El Dorado Springs, Missouri. She was a 1971 graduate of Raymore-Peculiar High School, Peculiar, Missouri. She married Charles Eddy on March 23, 1975 in Peculiar, Missouri. He preceded her in death on July 9, 2018.
Joyce’s life was defined by hard work, her faith in Jesus Christ, and the love she had for her family. Joyce was a natural entrepreneur. While still in high school she went into business raising and showing dogs with her mother. She noticed that many of the other people they were showing against were professional dog groomers and she went to training to become one as well. This proved to be an asset to their showing and breeding business. After high school, she and her sister, Evelyn, opened Harper’s Flowers and Gifts, a floral shop with locations in Harrisonville and Belton. After she was married and her husband’s career forced a move to Charleston, Mo, she spotted an opportunity in the dog grooming business, working from her home so that she could also be a full-time mom to her four children. When Charles’ career took the family to Princeton, KY, she rebuilt the grooming business from the ground up. She did this a third time in Chillicothe, when they moved to town in 1987. In 1999, she made the decision to get into real estate. Joyce was Realtor, broker and co-owner of Gaslight Real Estate, Chillicothe, Missouri until it was sold. Most recently, she was broker and owner of Eddy Real Estate, LLC in Chillicothe. Joyce was a hard-working realtor, always ready to jump in and help clean, paint or even renovate a property to help it sell. She approached all of her ventures with a “whatever it takes mentality” and her 100’s of repeat customers over the years are a testament to that.
Joyce became a Christian at a young age. She and her husband set an example for their children that their relationship with God was one of the most important things to them. Attending service three times a week, praying at home, and giving to the Lord were paramount to her. Joyce was a member of the Chillicothe Church of Christ since 1987. Through her commitment to Christ, Joyce was dedicated to serving others. She used her time, her home, and her energy to assist and fellowship with others, visiting those unable to attend services, and looking out for those she could help in any way.
Joyce’s family was very important to her. She took great joy in attending concerts, sporting events, FFA banquets, and many other things that her children (Lynnette, Joe, John, and Leah) participated in. She loved being a grandmother as well, often having her grandchildren come stay with her and spoiling them!

Joyce will be missed by many. She is survived by two sons, Joe David Eddy and wife, Kelly of Rocheport, Missouri, and John Daniel Eddy and wife, Teresa of Okemah, Oklahoma; two daughters, Lynnette Marie Berry and husband, Michael of Kansas City, Missouri, and Leah Michelle Robitaille and husband, Jason of Grass Valley, CA; ten grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two brothers, Clint Harper of Clinton, Missouri, and Charles Harper of Clinton, Missouri; one sister, Evelyn Harper of Urich, Missouri; and three brothers-in-law, Charles West of Urich, Missouri, David O. Eddy and wife, Betty Lou of New Madrid, Missouri, and Jerry Lee Eddy and wife, Mary Catherine of Lebanon, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles; grandson, Elijah Hunter Saldivar; sisters, Eunice Harper and Laura (Harper) West; and sister-in-law, Pamela (Jones) Harper.
